These armies still had small numbers of Carthaginian citizens and Liby-Phoenicians, but the Sacred Band of old was no more. Their numbers never recovered and in time the pressure of Carthage’s wars with Rome meant that the Sacred Band was superseded by mercenary armies, paid for by Carthage's trading wealth. Renowned for their valour, even in defeat, the Sacred Band was expected to fight to the last, and did so at the Battle of the Crimissus in 340BC. They wore armor to protect the most vital areas of their body, they carried a thrusting spear between 6 to 10 feet in length, a Corinthian-style helmet, and their symbolic Hoplite Shield. Armed with hoplite spears, tipped with an iron head and bronze butt-spike for balance, members of the Sacred Band also carried straight swords. Any even slightly strong hit, of which are abundant in UVHM, tends to knock me at least at or below half max health. When I have my normal max health, I don't actually notice it making a difference most of the time. I can even withstand a melee hit from Terra without my shield breaking. Hail is also a great weapon at high anarchy, and it's a Moxxi weapon, so there's further synergy there.

So I can't really take advantage of that.īut overall, with her ability to refill 100% of a shield on kill and anarchy generally pushing her to be closer, with Hoplite and even moderate anarchy it basically allows me to charge into enemies and either run through them, killing once or twice on the way to refill the massive shield, or just withstand all kinds of punishment as enemies have to take off 2.8 million in shields that refills on every kill. Another quirk is that with sharing is caring, when I summon Deathtrap it drops my health to nothing.
